Porter Lodge #137 Joins Valparaiso’s Downtown Trick-or-Treat Tradition

On Friday, October 23, downtown Valparaiso once again filled with families for the town’s beloved Halloween trick-or-treat tradition, and Porter Lodge #137 was proud to take part.

Hundreds of children, accompanied by their parents, made their way through the downtown streets, as they do each year. Porter Lodge has participated for several years now. The event offers a wonderful opportunity to put a smile on a child’s face, leave a lasting positive impression on young minds, and make the Lodge more visible to the people of Valparaiso. It also gave Brothers the chance to answer questions parents had about Freemasonry in general.

Porter Lodge is part of this community, and continuing to take an active role in the life of the town is important, as Masons have done throughout the history of Valparaiso.

Brothers began arriving at the Lodge between 2:00 and 2:30 PM to prepare. Streets closed around 3:15 PM to allow for safe passage of children, and trick-or-treating ran from 4:00 to 6:00 PM. A candy table was set up at the entrance of the Lodge, with plenty of candy on hand to make every Valpo kid happy.

Traffic was heavy, and some main streets were closed or had reduced traffic, so many Brothers parked a few blocks away and walked to the Lodge.

Sincere thanks go to all the Brothers who volunteered their time, friendly faces, and willing hands to make the evening a success. It was also a joy to see so many Brothers’ children and grandchildren stop by the table to visit.
