On the evening of March 26, 2026, the Northwest Indiana Area Conference was convened at Calumet Lodge No. 379 in Chesterton. Though forecasts warned of storms and hail, the inclement weather did little to deter attendance. The dining hall was filled with Brothers whose dedication to the Craft prevailed over the elements.
The evening began in fellowship, as Brothers and guests gathered to break bread together. Warm greetings, familiar faces, and lively conversation set the tone, with updates and aspirations shared from lodges across the region. This spirit of unity and camaraderie—so central to Freemasonry—was evident throughout the hall.
The conference was formally opened by John Bridegroom, Right Worshipful Deputy Grand Master, who extended a gracious welcome and introductory remarks. He then introduced Randy Seipel, Most Worshipful Grand Master, who addressed the assembly with heartfelt reflections on his love for the Fraternity. He spoke of ongoing initiatives, including travels with his First Lady to visit lodges throughout the state, and shared his vision for the continued growth and vitality of Freemasonry in Indiana.
David Hosler, Grand Junior Deacon, followed with a presentation on the “357 Program,” emphasizing practical strategies to ensure lodges remain active, vibrant, and prepared for future success. His remarks underscored the importance of engagement, adaptability, and forward-thinking leadership.
The Brothers also heard from Rick Elman, Most Worshipful Grand Secretary, who introduced thought-provoking ideas regarding potential changes within lodge and Grand Lodge governance. His address encouraged reflection on how modern approaches might enhance efficiency while preserving the traditions of the Craft.
Steven Sonafrank spoke on the enduring importance of supporting the Indiana Masonic Home, reminding those present of their duty to care for the Brethren who came before them. His message highlighted both compassion and responsibility as pillars of Masonic life.
Further enriching the evening, David Westmeyer, Senior Grand Deacon, presented on the historic Schofield House in Madison—a site of profound importance as the birthplace of Freemasonry in Indiana. He spoke candidly about the fate of similar historic landmarks in other jurisdictions, many of which have been lost due to neglect or lack of foresight. His call was clear: Indiana Freemasons must remain steadfast in preserving this irreplaceable piece of their heritage for future generations.
The program continued with additional discussions, including a moving video highlighting the lives of residents at the Indiana Masonic Home. Announcements were also made regarding the upcoming Annual Communication in May and the installation of a new Grand Master—events eagerly anticipated by the Craft.
As the evening concluded around 9:00 p.m., the Brothers departed with renewed inspiration, strengthened bonds, and a shared commitment to the future of Freemasonry in Indiana. The conference stood as a testament to the enduring vitality of the Fraternity—an evening of fellowship, reflection, and purpose that will carry forward until the next gathering.
